What should I bring on my sailing adventure?
To ensure you have the best possible time on your sailing adventure with Windy Escapes Charters, we recommend packing comfortable clothing, sun protection, food and drink, and any personal items you may need. The lake is often cooler than land, so we recommend a sweatshirt or light jacket.
How do I avoid sea sickness?
Some people are highly sensitive to sea sickness. While this cannot always be avoided there are some simple steps you can take to reduce the likelihood of this discomfort.
- Consider using a bracelet for motion sickness.
- Eat a carbohydrate rich meal shortly before your sail.
- Avoid excessive alcohol intake.
- Munch on some ginger snaps.
- Consider taking an anti-nausea medication such as Dramamine.
Can we sail under the Mackinac Bridge?
The normal 2 hour sail does not provide enough time to sail under the bridge, however, if you book a custom cruise, we can sail under the bridge. It will take between 3-4 hours (wind dependent) to sail under the bridge.
Will we use both sails?
Yes! We love to sail and want to share that experience with others. Sailing requires both sails to properly balance the vessel.
Can I bring food and/or beverage?
Absolutely! We want you to enjoy your experience. Please feel free to bring food and beverage to make this the best experience possible. We are unable to provide you with options to purchase on the vessel but we are happy to arrange for items to be ready for you at the boat if you order and pay for them ahead of time from any of the local island eateries or businesses.
Should I bring children?
Please do. Captain Mark and his wife, Christy, have five children of their own and were foster parents for several years. All of the children that were in their lives for any longer periods of time spent much time on sailboats. Captain and crew are prepared to ensure both adults and children enjoy this experience.
How many people can we take on our sail?
Windy Escapes offers private sailing charters for up to 6 guests, in line with Coast Guard regulations. This ensures a comfortable, personalized experience for everyone on board.
Are there any requirements prior to sailing?
Our insurance company requires all passengers to complete a Liability Release Form and Private Charter Agreement. You can access and sign this form online at https://windyescape.com/release/.
